On a quiet street beside the pine-edged lake known as Talvatis, Hotell Jokkmokk is a real blast from the past.
This is a place where reindeer skins hang on the walls, and where stuffed animals decorate the old-fashioned restaurant.
That restaurant doesn’t look like it’s been renovated in decades and nor does the reception area, where you can (should the mood take you) buy yourself a DVD about bear hunting.
After seeing the public areas, which could almost be mistaken for part of a natural history museum, the rooms seem pretty plain. Twin rooms are slightly larger than the doubles, but cost the same amount. All rooms have hard floors and come with free wifi and an en-suite bathroom.
There’s a sauna outside by the lake, allowing guests to make the classic dash from sauna to snow and back again.
Another reason to pick Hotell Jokkmokk is its bar. Watched over by a huge stuffed bear, it’s one of the few places in town where you can enjoy an evening drink.
