There’s a vague jazz theme in the air at this big Best Western hotel on Luleå’s main street.
Hotel Savoy is not nearly as posh or service-minded as its namesake in London but it is one of the newest hotels in the city, with better leisure facilities than a lot of the neighbouring places.
Even the cheapest doubles here feel roomy and comfortable, and some have lovely high ceilings. The interiors in these rooms are pretty neutral with lots of black and silver, but it’s a different story in the junior suites, which are done up in loud yellows and purples – bring sunglasses.
The restaurant at the back of the building sometimes hosts live music, and at other times tunes are pumped softly through the hotel’s sound system. Food wise, expect plenty of meaty local flavours like pig cheeks, reindeer meat, and blood pudding.
One floor down from street level, guests get use of the hotel’s big gym and spa area, which has a couple of hot tubs and a decent sauna.
If you stay at Hotell Savoy – and it is a good choice – our advice would be to go for one of the standard rooms. The larger ones are fine too, but don’t really justify the extra expense.
