The Scandinavian countries are connected by a number of ferry routes. So it’s definitely worth considering the waterways when you travel around Scandinavia.

Taking the ferry is a unique travel experience which might well save you long hours on the road – and you can still bring your car along.
The busiest routes are between Denmark and Norway and between Denmark and the west coast of Sweden, even though the latter is also connected by the mighty Øresund Bridge, which connects Copenhagen with Malmö.
Sweden and Finland are linked by ferries across the Baltic Sea, and although the Stockholm to Helsinki journey is rather long, it’s more memorable than the short flight between these capitals.
As well as simply getting you from A to B, several of these Scandinavian ferry routes are popular for day trips and mini cruises. It’s a pleasant way to enjoy the open sea, some good food and drink, and do a bit of onboard shopping.
Here’s an overview of the routes, their frequencies, journey times and fares. Our guide includes the daily international routes only.
Scandinavian ferry fares
The fares for individual routes vary a lot depending on the season, how far in advance you book, how many people you travel with and what kind of vehicle you have.
Check each company’s website for seasonal and special offers plus savings on return tickets. Note that some routes are serviced by more than one company.
All the prices quoted here are for the cheapest single adult ticket (walk-on), plus a single ticket for a car including up to four adults. To make it easier, we’ve listed all prices in Euros.
