Elite Plaza Hotel

Overall 9

Fresh and fancy

9

You’ll find some of Malmö’s freshest and fanciest hotel rooms at the Elite Plaza. The 116-room hotel is located right on Gustav Adolfs Torg, a pretty city square that’s edged by shops and restaurants.

Long and skinny, the hotel’s smart lobby is decorated with contemporary art. From here lifts whizz guests to their rooms, which impress with lots of nice details. The big white wardrobes are edged by dark wood, for example, and the sheets are embossed with little ‘E’ symbols – a nod to the hotel’s name.

If you’re staying in town for a while you may want to go for one of the more expensive deluxe rooms; for a couple of hundred kronor extra per night you’ll get a bit more space and, if you’re lucky, a better view of the square. Some of the super-fresh bathrooms have showers and tubs; others only showers.

Leisure-wise, Elite Plaza has its own sauna and gym. Attached to the lobby is an expensive British-style pub – its tables and chairs edge out on the pavement. If it gets a bit chilly, there are blankets to wrap up in (failing that, there are some fierce patio heaters to warm things up).

The whole place feels very well run, and the rooms are surprisingly good value compared with similar hotels nearby.
