Where to do yoga in Stockholm

Stockholmers love any excuse to keep healthy, so it’s no surprise they’ve jumped head-first onto the yoga bandwagon.

Whether you’re visiting for a short while or have just moved to Stockholm, yoga sessions offer a great way to unwind and introduce yourself to the city. Most studios allow you to easily drop in for the day or sign up for a trial week or month.

While it’s generally not a problem if you don’t speak Swedish, you might want to let the instructor know that you prefer English — many yoga teachers in Stockholm are happy to accommodate you. Some workshops even use English as the default language!

Another bonus is that doing yoga offers a nice way to meet like-minded locals who are enthusiastic about their asanas. Here are some of Stockholm’s best places to work on your downward dog, cultivate new friends and find some inner calm along the way.

AcroYoga Stockholm

Timmermansgatan 10, Södermalm

Offering a blend of acrobatics and yoga, Acroyoga seems a little closer to circus training than your classic yoga studio, but as a result it’s more accessible to beginners straight from the gate.

Bring a partner or friend along, because this type of yoga is all about balancing on each other. The best part? You don’t have to know anything about acrobatics or yoga in advance, just be open to experimenting!

The AcroYoga studio also offers treatments in Thai Yoga Massage, a mélange of Thai massage, acupressure, shiatsu and yoga. Drop-in sessions start at around 150 SEK.

If you fancy a yoga holiday, you can grab a space in one of their workshops abroad – Sardinia and Helsinki were both being offered when we last checked. The studio even offers special yoga classes online, wholly free of charge. You can try a week of yoga for around 350 SEK.

Bikram Yoga City

Olof Palmes gata 11 A, Norrmalm

As the name suggests, this place in the heart of the city focuses on Bikram yoga (the kind where you’re in a room that’s been warmed to a sticky 40C). This temperature change can be quite a treat if you like the heat – especially if you’re visiting during Stockholm’s colder months.

On a more practical level, all that warmth is designed to soften your muscles, allowing for a deeper stretch with less risk of injury. Instructors undergo a rigorous training process, involving 500 hours of study and apprenticeship under yoga masters, so you’re in good hands here. A 30-day intro costs around 400 SEK.

Hot Yoga Stockholm

Gotlandsgatan 53 B, Södermalm

Hot Yoga Stockholm is the sister studio to Bikram Yoga City (see above). Their specialty is also yoga performed in a heated room, but the style is in the Ghosh tradition, which is known for its particularly invigorating technique. Just make sure you drink a lot of water and get fully hydrated before the session starts!

You can trial the sessions here for a few weeks (around 400 SEK) before joining up.
