Tre Små Rum, Stockholm

The name is Swedish for ‘three small rooms’, but this good-value, independent hotel near Mariatorget now has seven rooms to choose from.

They’re all a few steps down from street level, with shared facilities along the corridor. Interiors are quite basic and some street noise can find its way into the rooms through windows high up on the walls, but all of the rooms (doubles and twins are available) are clean, tidy and comfortable.

An organic breakfast is included with every booking at Tre Små Rum. You help yourself to yoghurt, muesli, bread and coffee, and load your crockery into the dishwasher when you’re done.

Look out for the big maps in the kitchen area: dotted with pins, they show where the hotel’s guests have arrived from over the years. If you’re from anywhere in Western Europe, you’ll have a job finding space for a pin of your own.

Free luggage storage and a friendly, welcoming owner make this a good budget choice in Södermalm. The nearest T-bana station, Mariatorget, is a couple of blocks north.
