There’s a real sense of understated style at Hotel Mäster Johan, the best of several pricey hotels near Lilla Torg.
This isn’t Malmö’s glitziest place to stay but it’s charming in its own way, with lots of naked wood and washed-out fabrics in the spacious rooms.
The whole place is set around a glass-covered central courtyard, where free tea and coffee is served throughout the day.
A very good buffet is laid out in the attached orangerie-style breakfast room each morning – load up on fresh orange juice and warm croissants here and you’ll be ready to face the day.
Leisure facilities are limited to a sauna and a fairly basic gym, both downstairs in the basement.
Rooms come in three different sizes but unless you’re staying for a very long while, the standard ones should be plenty big enough. All rooms have oak floors, Bang & Olufsen TVs, wooden bedsteads and nice down duvets. There are also suites with four-poster beds, if you’re looking for something a bit special.
Prices are on the high side for Malmö, but discounts are often available online.
