Zinkensdamm, Stockholm – Routes North

Open since 1975, Zinkensdamm is a bright, clean choice in a quiet part of Södermalm, with lots of greenery all around.

There are two main types of accommodation in the sprawling complex: hotel-style rooms with decent en-suite facilities and simpler, hostel-type rooms.

The hotel rooms sleep up to four people, but ordinary twins are available too. Prices for these rooms usually include bed sheets, towels and breakfast at the café in the lobby, but you’ll get a discount if you bring your own gear.

Generally speaking, the hostel rooms and dorms are a little more basic and have shared bathrooms, but you’ll have access to a well-equipped kitchen and a sitting room with cosy armchairs to kick back in.

At the middle of the complex is a lovely grassy courtyard. You can chill out here or sweat away the day’s stresses in Zinkensdamm’s sauna (50 SEK charge for hostel guests).

The nearest T-bana station (Zinkensdamm) is only a ten-minute walk away but if you’d rather not travel around the city by public transport then the hotel rents out bikes for 50 SEK per hour, or 195 SEK per day.
