The coolest spot for coffee and cakes in Malmö, Café Simpan attracts a young and multicultural crowd. Artists, computer nerds and musicians all seem to be drawn here from across town.
They come to work, chat and make friends (when we last visited, a big group of strangers had met up to teach each other Arabic, Chinese, Swedish and English). Sometimes there’s live music too – usually guitar-based stuff.
The chequered floors and crumbling walls decorated with arty posters make Café Simpan a quirky place for lunch – proper Peruvian dishes like ceviche are usually available, as are yummy homemade cakes. Up by the counter there are some great bottled beers to choose from.
Breakfasts are good value here; you can get the day off to a decent start with bread, cheese, ham, coffee and fresh fruit for around 90 SEK.
One big plus with this place is that the staff always seem to make the effort to be friendly and welcoming. Worth a visit.
