Göteborgs Vandrarhem

Overall 5

Cheap for longer stays

Although it regularly fills up with Swedish students looking for more permanent accommodation in Gothenburg, this out-of-the-way hostel is – for short-term stays at least – a bit of a turkey.

It’s not that the accommodation is bad; it’s clean-ish and fairly comfortable, with an open-air veranda and a big kitchen and dining area.

But the small rooms do little to justify the relatively high prices. Stretched out along a yellowed and quite musty corridor, most of them share bathrooms and they don’t have much in the way of in-room facilities, besides a couple of narrow beds.

Goteborgs Vandrarhem is a cheap hostel in Gothenburg

Dorms here also feel quite dated, so unless you have trouble getting a bunk at one of the more up-to-date hostels like Slottsskogens or Masthuggets Vandrarhem, it’s probably not worth your time.

Despite all of that, this is one of the few hostels in Gothenburg giving serious discounts for longer-term stays. Stay in a twin room for a couple of weeks and the nightly rate will drop by more than a hundred kronor. Longer than that and you may be able to negotiate a rate of around 350 SEK per night – very cheap if you’re sharing with a friend, but still not great if you’re alone.

Location-wise, this place is okay if you’re planning a trip to Liseberg, which has an entrance along the same road, but it’s a bit of hike from here to the main spots for eating, drinking, and partying.
