Just across from the supermarket in Abisko, this well-run guesthouse has some of the smartest and most comfortable rooms in town. All of them are private (no dorms here), and although they don’t have en-suite bathrooms, there are plenty of clean shower rooms and toilets to go around.
Comfort-wise, this is a good step up from a hostel, though it still has some of the same perks. You can make meals in one of the two small but well-stocked kitchens, and then catch up on your emails in a dining room decorated with pictures of the northern lights.
The small triple rooms at Abisko Guesthouse come with a double bed and a single bunk overhead, and are almost up to hotel standards. Twins are more basic but still feel clean and comfortable.
A couple of things we really like about this place: the wifi is fast and reliable, and there’s no messing about with room keys; you’ll get a code when you check in and can use this to open your room and the outer door. The owner, Klas, can also arrange tours.
As the guesthouse is fairly new (it opened in 2013), one of the bathrooms is disabled friendly. There are also ramps between rooms where necessary, making this place a good choice for wheelchair users.
Overall Abisko Guesthouse is a great option – our only complaint is that the rates are relatively high. If you’re looking for something cheaper, it’s worth checking out Hostel Haverskog and Winterday Hostel, both a short walk away.
