Skellefteå Camping

Campsite with rooms

7

A bit of a trek from the centre, but not bad if you have your own wheels, this huge, well-equipped campsite has space for several hundred caravans.

Skellefteå Camping also has grass pitches for tents (you’ll have to bring your own), plus dozens of different self-catering cottages, some of which have views down over the city.

If you’re just passing through town on your way to or from the airport, the cheap, hostel-style rooms on the site are probably more useful. We stayed in the Galaxen building, which has simple twin bedrooms strung out along a long corridor, plus clean shared bathrooms and a large kitchen/dining area that’s perfect for preparing cheap meals.

Our room was a bit dusty, but the rest of the building was spotlessly clean. Note that if you stay here or in the hostel annexe, you’ll need to bring your own bed linen and towels – otherwise you can borrow a set for 100 SEK.

The main reception building at Skellefteå Camping sells basic supplies and there’s a drive-in hotdog bar just down the hill, in case you’re feeling peckish.

If you’re here with the family during summer, you might want to make time for a dip at Vitbergsbadet, the campsite’s big outdoor pool, which has a wave machine, flumes and hot tubs. Saunas and showers are dotted around the site. It’s possible to rent bikes too, but they’re pricey at 50 SEK per hour.

A final tip: the default Google Maps location for this place isn’t quite right. See our marker on the map below for the correct location.
