Escape the city and explore some of the most beautiful areas around Stockholm on this incredible one-day ice-skating trip! Even if you’ve never hit the ice before, this is an amazing opportunity to get your skates on and have fun in a beautiful natural environment.
Depending on the weather and the conditions, you’ll skate on Lake Mälaren, which is connected to the Baltic Sea, or in the Stockholm Archipelago. The ice is often so clear that you can see fish swimming beneath you, and there’s also the chance to see wild deer crossing the ice! Some guests also manage to spot wild boar and plenty of birdlife on these skating tours.
What can you expect?
The tour is led by fun and easy-going guides. There’s no need to have any prior skating experience, and the first part of the day will be spent getting to grips with your skates and practicing your technique. The tour is run in small groups of three to six people, making it easy to keep the group together and have fun along the way.
Later in the day you’ll have the chance to skate more, enjoying the changing landscape – sometimes the ice can be as clear as glass, and other times it can be almost completely black. Stopping for hot drinks and some cake, you might also meet local fisherman, who are happy to show you the day’s catch.

What to wear
Ice skating is quite a physical activity, so don’t dress too warmly – but you should bring an extra layer for when you’re standing still. It’s best to have clothing that dries up quickly, so avoid cotton if possible! Wool and polyester are best. Layers are better than one thick layer. We recommend:
- Several pairs of warm socks to optimise boot fitting
- A thermal base layer (i.e. winter running shirt)
- A warm sweater (ideally fleece or wool)
- A water resistant wind stopper or shell layer
- A down jacket or winter coat to wear during breaks
- A warm hat, a scarf and either gloves or mittens
- Skiing trousers or thermal leggings (alternatively jogging trousers under a pair of jeans)
This tour is conducted on natural ice. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required. If the guides deem the conditions to be dangerous, they reserve the right to conduct a cross-country skiing trip instead.
