During its annual Culture Night the city of Stockholm rolls out its ‘purple carpet’ for a fun-packed programme of cultural events encompassing art, dance, music, theatre and story-telling.
With over 100 different events taking place across the city from 6pm til midnight, this ambitious project aims to quench the cultural thirst of visitors and locals alike.
Happily for budget travellers, all the entertainment on offer is free, with many of the shows and concerts taking place in public places like squares and parks – and even on bridges and in churches. That said, if you’re planning to watch a popular event that takes place at a theatre or bar with limited space, it might be worth booking ahead.
The organisers hope for an evening of balmy Swedish springtime weather, so borrow a bike or go for a stroll and you’re sure to come across one of the many events. Alternatively, check the website for the programme, which will contain addresses and nearest public transport stops for each event.
