The Viking genes run strong in the Danish inhabitants of Søndervig on the west coast of Jutland, Denmark. Each year, their thrill-seeking ‘Winter Bathers’ celebrate the arrival of the new year in a memorable manner, and you can get in on the fun!

Join the locals on the beach on the morning of December 31st, where they’ll be holding their annual Winter Bathing Festival. It’s an icy swim in the North Sea that you certainly won’t forget in a hurry.
The festival kicks off at 11am at Søndervig beach. You can turn up to watch or get in on the action yourself by registering online by December 30th, 12:00.
There is a reward for shivering your teeth off; after you’ve plunged into the freezing waves, you’ll be welcomed back on the sand with champagne and oysters.
One thousand people participated in last year’s festival, and the event is very popular with visitors from Germany, so you definitely won’t be alone!
