While central Copenhagen is a feast come Christmas time, you might feel like escaping the big city buzz. So why not take a trip north to Helsingør?

The majestic Renaissance castle of Kronborg, with thick walls surrounding its cobbled courtyard, makes the perfect backdrop for one of Denmark’s largest Christmas markets.
Among the decorated Christmas trees, more than 100 market stalls sell everything from local goods to delicatessen. Danish design, clothes, jewellery, toys and decorations of all kinds can all be found.
If you want the best offers you should visit on November 29th which is known as Black Friday. And don’t miss the chance to try the Danes’ favourite holiday treat Æbleskiver, small circular doughnuts.
Christmas-themed guided tours, a Fairytale Theatre, children’s workshops, storytelling and concerts are all part of the festive fun during the first two weekends of December. And you can add to the fun by arriving in style on the veteran train from the nearby town of Hellerup.
