Røros Market

10:00am – 05:00pm

Since 1854, the UNESCO-listed copper-mining town of Røros in central Norway has attracted merchants from near and far to its annual market. This year marks its 169th edition, which takes place, as always, from the second-to-last Tuesday in February for five days.

It all starts with a horse-powered opening ceremony, as more than 80 horse-drawn carriages arrive at the market at midday – some after many days of travelling from across the border in Sweden. In total, around 250 merchants come to town to join local vendors and no less than 70,000 visitors are expected to browse the stalls over the five days.

More than just a local market, this is an event on a national scale and a big part of the area’s cultural history. Visitors will find stalls inside the market hall, in the streets and in the town’s atmospheric backyards, where everything from clothing to furniture and craft is sold.

Meanwhile, a funfair, small concerts, folk dancing and horse and carriage events add to the lively atmosphere of the town. Don’t miss one of the most unique markets in Scandinavia.
