Tucked away in the southwest corner of Jutland, the small town of Tønder comes alive for Tønder Festival, a massive folk music festival that has been running since the mid 1970s.
The festival brings together both up-and-coming and internationally renowned folk artists in one place for four days of music and fun.
Festival venues are scattered throughout town, and the festival’s headquarters is at Hagge’s Musik Pub. Larger shows take place on outdoor stages.
Headline acts in recent years have included Lucinda Williams, Marc Cohn, Yola Carter, Graham Nash (from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) and the cleverly named Red Hot Chili Pipers.
