Melafestivalen 2021, Oslo

PROMOTED
Colourful, fun and completely free for anyone who wants to come along, Melafestivalen is celebration of cultural diversity in the very centre of Oslo.
The festival gets its name from the Sanskrit word ‘mela’, which means ‘meet’, and there are plenty of opportunities for making new friends at the event.
Visitors can expect to see a huge range of bands, DJs and virtuoso musicians throughout the festival – in recent years performers have included a ‘Bollywood hiphop’ act and an Afrobeat artist who delivers rhymes in Norwegian.
The festival is founded on the belief that migration has helped to enrich Norwegian society, and that music is a great way to bring people together.
To help spread this idea further, the festival has established a year-round concert stage for world music in the middle of Oslo. ‘Melahuset’ provides a place for upcoming Oslo-based artists and musicians to perfect their craft, while also offering courses for everything form dance and rap to reggae and salsa. Melahuset is at Mariboes gate 8 (there’s free entry for kids and families on Sundays).
The full programme for this year’s event hadn’t been released at the time of writing – keep an eye on the Melafestivalen Facebook page for updates!
