While central Copenhagen is a feast come Christmas time, you might feel like escaping the big city buzz. So why not take a trip north to Helsingør?
The majestic Renaissance castle of Kronborg, with thick walls surrounding its cobbled courtyard, makes the perfect backdrop for one of Denmark’s best Christmas markets, on 25th and 26th November and 2nd and 3rd December.
Among the decorated Christmas trees, market stalls sell everything from local goods to delicatessen. Danish design, clothes, jewellery, toys and decorations of all kinds can all be found. And don’t miss the chance to try the Danes’ favourite holiday treat Æbleskiver, small circular doughnuts.
Christmas-themed guided tours, a Fairytale Theatre, children’s workshops, storytelling, workshops and concerts – from a gospel choir to jazz – are all part of the festive fun.
