Nestled in the rolling hills of Telemark County around 300km southwest of Oslo, Dølemo is a sleepy village that comes alive every August for the annual Dølemo Market Fair. The fair attracts more than 15,000 people every year and features live music and over 150 exhibitors highlighting local products and foods.
Grab your tent or roll up in your RV and find a spot at the nearby camping grounds, which also provide great access to the nearby woods and rivers. The fair is a favourite stop for bikers and classic car enthusiasts as well, who proudly display their rides for fellow visitors to admire.
In previous years, the fair has featured performances by the famous Norwegian country group Bjøro Håland & Country Snakes and the folk-inspired rock group Staut.
On Sunday afternoon the fair also hosts the Axe Throwing Championship. Anyone is allowed to enter the qualifying round, so channel your inner Viking and give it a go. If your arm and aim are good enough, you’ll be on your way to becoming the next axe-throwing champion of Dølemo!
