If you have tried snowshoeing before, you’ll know that it’s really hard work. Therefore, you better start training, if you’re up for a challenge in northern Norway this March.
The Arctic SnowShoe Race is held in Tromsø – or rather on the island of Kvaløya, just across the bridge from the city’s airport.
This is a race for both experienced runners and beginners. The Recreational Class will follow a 5km route through relatively flat marshlands, to make it manageable for newcomers to the sport.
Meanwhile, the Competition Class is a 10km race that takes hardcore racers to the summit of Rødtinden mountain, some 470 metres above sea level. Both classes leave from Kvaløya’s ski stadium.
You can either watch the professionals or have a go yourself. It’s up to you if you want to walk or run, but the natural scenery is worth the trip alone.
