Hotel Lundia

Overall 8

Ugly building, handsome rooms

8

This long-running business hotel occupies a 1960s block right in the middle of town. It looks a bit gloomy from the outside, but you shouldn’t let that put you off; as soon as you step inside, things begin to look up.

Standard rooms are very nicely done, if a little compact. Apart from having functional, Nordic styling (apparently the hotel has its own designer), each room comes with a good-sized work desk and a Bang & Olufsen TV.

There are more than 20 different types of bathroom across Hotel Lundia’s 90-odd rooms and suites, so what you actually end up with will depend on what’s available when you check in. The ones we saw ranged from fairly ordinary to totally snazzy, with sparkling mirrors and egg-shaped toilets.

Superior rooms are a wee bit bigger than the cheaper, standard versions. The most recently refurbished rooms feature lots of light wooden wall panels and have tall black headboards stretching above the beds.

The staff we met here were super helpful and took time to answer questions about the local area and show us around. Perhaps the best thing about this place is the location – it’s just a couple of hundred metres from the train station among lots of shops, cafés, and restaurants. Breakfast is included.

Note that, as with many hotels in Lund, prices tend to go up a lot during the week.
