On a quiet side street that’s handy for both the train station and the main shopping drag, Hotell Amber is one of Luleå’s few independent hotels.
Most of the accommodation options in the city centre are part of big chains, so it’s refreshing to find a cosy, family-run hotel offering good-value rooms.
The double we were shown at Hotell Amber was clean and spacious with some snazzy floral wallpaper; each room is slightly different though, so ask to see a few before you get settled in.
The hotel, which takes up a pretty wooden building with its own garden, also has rooms suitable for families and solo travellers. Guests get a Swedish breakfast served up in a smart dining area near the reception desk, and can use this space for eating meals later in the day (there aren’t kitchen facilities though, so this is really only good for takeaways and snacks).
Prices are on the high side during the week, but there are good rates on Friday and Saturday nights. Parking spaces, always at a bit of a premium in Luleå, can be had for an extra 65 SEK per day.
