Clarion Sense

Luleå's flashiest pad

9

Luleå’s flashiest hotel is Clarion Sense, which opened across from the cultural centre in 2013, helping to cement Norra Hamn’s status as the most happening part of town.

The panoramic ‘sky bar’ here attracts plenty of local cocktail fans and the restaurant – Kitchen & Table – is part of a chain overseen by the Swedish celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson.

Soft blue and green hues help to light up the handsome lobby, where business types pull up cosy armchairs and chatter over coffee. Bedrooms start up on the fifth floor (the levels in between are taken up by conference facilities) and are available in a few different flavours.

The Clarion Sense hotel in Luleå, Sweden

At the most basic end are the standard rooms – these have slick black and grey furnishings, plus arty pictures of leaves and branches stretched across their walls. Superior rooms at Clarion Sense are similar but have the advantage of views across the water.

If you really want to push the boat out, there are deluxe rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows. Admission to the hotel’s spa is included with these dearer rooms – otherwise you’ll have to pay 175 SEK per person to get access to saunas and pool, which seems a bit on the steep side.

Rates for a night at Clarion Sense are pretty high too, but the quality is good.
