Apart from being the name of a famous brand of watches, Skagen also happens to be the name of Denmark’s northernmost town. It has a long history as a fishing village and a close connection to the sea. So close, that even the blistery winter weather hasn’t put off its hardy inhabitants from taking winter dips in the ocean.
The “Icebreakers” (Isbryderne), as they are known, host the Skagen Winter Swimming Festival every year. Welcoming ‘all true Vikings’, the Icebreakers guarantee ‘ice cold sea dips, hot drinks and a close encounter with the unique nature of Skagen’.
Participants will take an invigorating morning dip in the ocean at Sønderstrand and will be rewarded afterwards with some hot soup served by local eatery Jacob’s Café. Think you’re up for the challenge? To register your participation, send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
