While the end of the cosy Christmas period often marks the start of Denmark’s long dark winter months, Copenhagen’s famous Tivoli Gardens does what it can to brighten the post-holiday mood.

Gone are the elfs, the reindeer and Santa, but the snowmen survive well into the chilling temperatures of February, shrouded in thousands of lights for Tivoli’s Winter Season. This is when the odds of seeing the gardens covered in real snow are better than in December – if not, the fake version will have to do.

Keep the cold at bay on Tivoli’s thrilling rides, or hide in the golden light of the warm restaurants for a meal or a cup of hot chocolate. Lace up your skates at the ice rink and feel your hands tingle as you warm them over the open fires. There’s fun to be had for the whole family – and don’t miss the spectacular winter illuminations that reflect in Tivoli’s own lake.
