A good Christmas market is all about location, and fans of Denmark’s famous Carlsberg beer will be right at home inside the Brewer’s courtyard, at the site of the original brewery.
A great place to warm up with a mulled beer – or ølgløgg as it’s called in Danish. Have a go at pronouncing that after a few drinks!
Visitors to the fair will also be tempted by treats like pork sandwiches, traditional æbleskiver (Danish-style doughnuts), roasted almonds and waffles. Vegetarian options will be available, too.
Besides edible temptations the atmospheric courtyard will be home to market stalls selling everything from jewellery and art to coffee and tea. And of course there will be speciality beers to stock up on for the long winter ahead.
The market can fittingly be combined with a bit of beer tourism, as Visit Carlsberg offers experiences such as historical tours and beer tastings. These are paid but the market itself is free, and so is Visit Carlsberg’s shuttle bus, which picks up visitors near Copenhagen’s Central Station (see the website for exact times). This is a ‘glass half full’ kind of event that stretches over three weekends in December.
