While the popular Stockholm Film Festival takes place during the dark days of mid-November, the equally popular ‘Sommarbio’ is held in mid-August. It’s an outdoor movie screening event set in the Rålambshovsparken city park, on the central island of Kungsholmen in Stockholm.
During five (hopefully mild) summer nights, thousands of Stockholmers will gather under the stars with blankets and picnic baskets, to watch free films on a big screen. All the films start at 9pm, and snacks and refreshments can be brought along or bought on site. So why not stock up on popcorn and cold drinks and join the locals?
This year marks the event’s 30th anniversary, and the programme for 2019 features a handful of true classics from some iconic directors: Pulp Fiction, Crouching Tiger – Hidden Dragon, Darjeeling Limited, Winter’s Bone, and Call Me By Your Name are all listed for the event. Check the website to see what movies play on which dates.
