Stockholm’s annual Pride festival is a spectacular LGBTI event overflowing with colour – and, as the biggest pride event in Scandinavia, it’s attended by revellers from all over the world.
Founded in 1998, Stockholm Pride seeks to raise awareness of LGBTI issues as well as create a place where everywhere feels welcome. As the organisers of the event say, “We believe that love and quality should exist everywhere”.
But the event’s stated aim only scratches the surface in describing the celebratory carnival feel that it brings to the Swedish capital.
During the event, the Östermalms IP sports stadium is transformed into a festival square, with concerts, workshops, debates, parades and parties spilling out from it and all over the city. The undoubted highlight is the much-loved Pride Parade, which snakes through the city on 5th August. Anyone can join.
The full programme for the week can be found over on the Stockholm Pride website (unfortunately in Swedish only).
