Looking for a Christmas event to remember? Then make a beeline for the humorously named town of Middelfart on Fyn in mid-December, when the annual Julemandsrace (Santa Race) kicks off.
A whole bunch of Santas – as well as Santa wives and their kids – will be pouring onto the streets of downtown Middelfart for this Christmassy fun run, spreading joy and happiness along the way.
The race has been arranged by a local running club since 2011, and it usually pulls in a couple of hundred red-and-white-clad runners for the 3km and 5km races, with everyone from grandparents to grandchildren taking part.
Online registration is open until December 14th, and there are special packages available for Christmas-crazy families. It’s also possible join on the day if you arrive early enough.
The starting gun is fired on the city’s central square, and as you might expect, there is a strict Santa dress code. Outfits are included in the sign-up fee though, along with a time-tracking chip, some drinking water and some traditional Danish æbleskiver (ball-shaped donuts). Post-race Christmas hygge never felt better!
