Put on your horned helmet and park your red-and-white Santa hat at the entrance, because this quirky Christmas market in the heart of Denmark offers a much more authentically Scandinavian experience.
Set among fields and forests on southern Fyn, it has more than 35 stalls placed around and inside a wooden ‘Viking’ castle, created by the Danish reality-star Jim Lyngvild.
Jim is a designer and an author who is especially known for his passion for Norse mythology, and neighbouring his extraordinary home, which will be open to the public during the market, you can enter the world’s only ‘gudehov’ (temple) – and pay your tribute to the gods of The North.
This market gives you the chance to get started with your gift shopping list, as you browse through beauty creams and craft beers from the host’s own product lines, while stalls by private sellers offer everything from crafts and jewellery to ceramics and candy.
Warm your hands beside the open fire where sizzling lunches are served, or escape the chilly temperatures inside large tents, where traditional Danish Æbleskiver (pancake puffs) and warm mugs of gløgg (spiced wine) will get you in the festive mood.
