This October, Norway’s second city of Bergen will be moving to a different rhythm, as an international dance festival rolls into town.
These aren’t your average dance recitals; instead, the Oktoberdans festival seeks to push the boundaries of the art form, with each show seeming more daring than the last.
The programme includes a dust-up with a Disney princess, a techno rave involving electric wheelchairs, and an explosive celebration of the joy of making noise.
One particular performance, ‘Underneath’ sees a group of dancers caught in a sea of plastic – a fitting image for the ocean-polluting times we live in. Then there’s ‘Diorama’, an outdoor production where the stunning Norwegian scenery takes a central role.
All in all, Oktoberdans promises a riotous multi-day celebration of just what the human body is capable of.
