Notodden is the largest blues festival in Scandinavia, and it’s regarded in many blues-y circles as being one of Europe’s best.
The festival is held in the centre of Notodden, a small, scenic town on the Heddalsvatnet lake a couple of hours southwest of Oslo. Its programme is packed with different blues concerts, which range from intimate gigs in bars and church concerts to performances that take place in boats while cruising on the lake.
The list of artists that have appeared here in the past is equally varied, with big names like Van Morrison, BB King, Robert Plant, Status Quo and ZZ Top topping the bill.
Supersonic Blues Machine and Walter Trout are among the names on this year’s extensive programme, which can be viewed on the festival’s website.
