Hans Nilsens vei 41
Head way up north to end the year in Norway, as Tromsø puts on a entertaining New Year’s Concert inside the city’s most beautiful building.
Known as the Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen in Norwegian), this architectural masterpiece built in 1965 is a place of worship and a popular tourist attraction, with aluminium-clad walls, a towering glass facade, colourful mosaics and giant chandeliers.
Needless to say, it will provide a spectacular setting for a 45-minute session of traditional joiks (Sami songs), plus some classical music and a buffet of Norwegian and international Christmas carols to sing along to.
The venue normally seats 600 people, but will only have room for about 500 for this concert, so it’s advisable to book tickets in good time to avoid disappointment.
Tromsø is located on an island inside the Arctic Circle, which makes it an excellent place for experiencing the northern lights. Let this concert mark the beginning of an Arctic New Year’s adventure, with the tunes of the north carrying you into 2019.
