Månefestivalen – The Moon Festival – is one of the biggest and most varied music festivals in eastern Norway, held under the bright light of the summer moon every year since 2001.
Offering a little bit of pop, jazz, rock and hip-hop, the festival claims to be the number one event for broad artistic impression, and the inclusion of other disciplines such as art, literature and theatre on its programme adds weight to this.
The festival’s location – at Scandinavia’s best preserved 17th-century fortress in Frederikstad, a historic city on the eastern side of the Oslofjord – further piles on the atmosphere during the festivities under the moonlit skies. The fortress itself is one of Norway’s most popular tourist attractions.
Lisa Ekdahl, Lissie and The Savage Rose are some of the names to have appeared in recent years. The programme can be viewed in full over on the festival’s website.
