If you’re a fan of Scandinavian knits, either to wear or to make yourself, then be sure to stop by the 2017 Knitting Festival in Fredrikstad, Norway.
Believe it or not, Scandinavian knitting is in vogue across the fashion world, and traditional Norwegian prints are among the latest styles being showcased on runways, fashion blogs, and magazine covers across the globe.
In late September the historic fortress town of Fredrikstad will play host to a wide variety of knitting events that will appeal to both experienced and novice knitters.
Speciality exhibitions will be set up around the Old Town, as will several fashion shows highlighting the latest in Norwegian knitting fashion and design. Fine yarns and patters will be on sale and, if you feel inspired, there will also be ample opportunities to pull out your own needles and get to work on your latest project.
If you’re in the mood for a little Nordic scenery with your knitting, then hop aboard the Knitting Cruise, which departs from Fredrikstad at 11am and will sail down through the picturesque Hvaler Archipelago. If you prefer a communal knitting atmosphere, then join one the Knit and Sing events, which include coffee, cake, and of course music.
Several ‘knitting cafes’ will also be set up around the Old Town, offering space to relax and chat with fellow knitters over a cup of coffee. The festival itself is free, but tickets are needed for some individual events.
