Dating way back to 1605, Jokkmokk Winter Market attracts locals and visitors from all over the world, who brave the cold to browse stalls selling handicrafts and local delicacies. But they also flock here to attend the many events and activities connected to the Sami culture. On offer are displays of traditional folk dance, art exhibitions, Sami joik concerts and lectures, as well as snowy activities such as dog-sledding and romantic reindeer rides.

The popular market usually draws in 30–40,000 visitors a year, though a record was set for the 400th anniversary in 2005 with 80,000 guests. It’s all highly impressive for a small snow-covered town.
