Where else than in the Finnish capital could you find a social sauna as part of a Christmas market? It’s a clear sign that Helsinki’s annual market has a distinctly local feel. And once again it’s expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors over 16 days.
Set in the central Senate Square and with Helsinki Cathedral as a spectacular backdrop, this market is ranked among Europe’s top Christmas experiences by several international media outlets.
It’s the biggest and most eye-catching Christmas market in Helsinki and it balances well old traditions and modern touches such as karaoke and bingo.
A central part of the market is the two food courts where some of the city’s top restaurants will be represented and, of course, the unique unisex sauna with its own Christmas Sauna Bar –the perfect place to warm up with a cup of Finnish glögi.
Well over 100 market stalls will feature producers and crafts from all over Finland, and the market square will get an extra buzz on December 6 as the Finns celebrate their Independence Day.
