Hamlet’s world can be rediscovered in the very castle where Shakespeare set his legendary play, with a programme of live theatrical performances taking place as part of the guided tours being run this spring.
Visitors to Helsingør can hear the story of Hamlet as they walk through the corridors and halls of Kronborg Castle, with the chance to see some of the Bard’s most famous characters, like Hamlet, Ophelia, Claudius, Gertrude, Polonius and Yorick. There’s also the chance to see the play’s ‘big showdown’ in the castle’s ballroom.
The characters in the live performances all speak English (at 2pm each Saturday), so the original prose of Shakespeare is very much a part of the experience. Danish versions take place at noon.
These dramatised tours are included with entry tickets, which can be reserved on the Kronborg Castle website. The events run on Saturdays throughout April and May.
