Göteborgs Kulturkalas is one of the largest cultural festivals in Scandinavia, drawing more than 1.5 million visitors every year.
The five-day event – called Gothenburg Culture Festival in English – sees more than 1,000 different cultural activities and events taking place across the west coast’s biggest city in mid August.
Streets and squares fill with crowds, who come to see musical performers from all corners of the globe, sample tasty snacks, and browse specialty crafts at the various stalls. There’s also the chance to experience a whole world of new ideas through art, film, dance, theater, movies and music.
The festival has been held every year since 1991 and although it’s facing a tighter budget this year, the organisers are still promising to make it a special event for everyone in Gothenburg, including those in town for the summer holidays.
