Feel like a challenging bit of exercise on your trip to Stockholm? The city’s annual marathon is an unforgettable event for running fans and spectators alike.
The event is now in its 41st year, and taking part is a fantastic way to see the Swedish capital city. The route hugs the beautiful waterfront for much of its length, while other sections give runners valuable exposure to cheering crowds.
The race runs through Norrmalm, Södermalm and Östermalm, past shops and houses, where spectators urge on the determined runners. The 42km-long race, which also passes many of the city’s famous buildings, ends with an emotional finishing straight into Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium.
Happily for those who want to cheer on loved ones or just enjoy the spectacle, there will be entertainment scattered along the length of the course, contributing to a real festival atmosphere.
