At this unusual event in Aarhus, Denmark, you can watch five musicians play specially-designed instruments in underwater tanks.
One of the central themes of Aarhus’ status as a 2017 European capital of culture is reimagining existing forms of art, culture and history. The AquaSonic underwater concert fits perfectly into this category.
Having developed their instruments and playing techniques in collaboration with scientists, instrument makers and deep-sea divers, the five musicians that form AquaSonic play and sing whilst entirely
submerged in underwater tanks. A bit like a troupe of all-singing, all-playing goldfish. Or something.
The concert takes place at the cultural centre called Godsbanen’s Åbne Scene, where the stage will be set up to create an underwater atmosphere in keeping with the experimental sub-aquatic musical experience of the concert itself.
AquaSonic debuted in the Netherlands in 2016 and are appearing in Denmark for the first time.
