Gallerian

One of the best places to go shopping in Stockholm is Gallerian, the big indoor mall just east of Sergels Torg. Let us qualify that by saying that you won’t find many small, independent shops here. If that’s what you’re after then Södermalm is a much better choice.

But, if you fancy going home with a suitcase full of clothes from some of Sweden’s coolest high-street brands and don’t want to waste time getting to an out-of-town retail park, then Gallerian is a pretty good place to start.

Swedish fashion chains with shops here include Björn Borg, Monki and – the most famous of them all – H&M. Lots of the usual international brands also have outlets around the mall, including Levi’s and Topman. Strangely, dogs are allowed into the shopping centre, much to the delight of some shoppers, who wander around the place with chihuahuas under their arms.

Food-wise, the choice is yours: cookies, dumplings, sushi and pizza are all on offer. Handily, there’s a tourist information desk near the entrance on Hamngatan. Its shiny Macs are hooked up to the internet and are free to use. Otherwise the whole mall has free wifi.

Close to the tourist desk, there are ATMs and a branch of Forex where you can change money.

Getting there

Bus 43 stops close to the main entrance on Hamngatan. The nearest T-bana station is Hötorget, about 500m to the north along Sveavägen.
