Budget hotel goes rock 'n' roll

9

Just across from the train station, Comfort Hotel Malmö is one of the biggest hotels in the city. There’s an odd rock ‘n’ roll theme to the place, but we’ve gotta say: the comfortable and modern rooms are fantastically good-value.

The hotel is spread across four buildings – one original block from the 1800s, and three newer wings added over time. An airy glass-covered atrium threads them all together.

Step into the lobby and you’ll be greeted by a row of Marshall amplifiers and tables in the shape of flight cases, which make it look like some touring rock band has just checked in. This musical theme continues at Plectrum, the hotel’s bar, restaurant and breakfast area, and up in the smart but compact rooms.

Comfort Hotel in Malmö

All of the rooms we looked at had funky close-up photos of microphones and rock stars’ screaming mouths on the walls behind the bed. The smallest, cheapest rooms are just above the lobby. These come with tiny corner showers but are comfy enough for one person on a one- or two-night stay. If you just want somewhere quiet to crash before an early morning train journey across to Copenhagen, these are ideal.

The standard doubles and superior rooms are considerably more spacious. Some of them have bathtubs.

Whichever room you go for, breakfast is always included. There’s also free wifi, free coffee and tea all day long, free bike hire for up to five hours at a time, and free access to the hotel’s gym, housed in a grand former function room. Rock on!
